چکیده

(Received for publication, September 15, 1949) Electro (encephalo) graphic studies of convulsion induced by cardiazol injection have hitherto given significant meanings in explanation of the cerebral mechanism for convulsion phenomenon and improvement of psychic cgndition.1)2)13)14) We also had once investigated electrographic changes during cardiazol convulsion in man.16) Those results, however, had bases upon the data obtained by means of the indirect recording method via the scalp. Now, those changes by the direct recording from the exposed human brain have come under investigation. Though such investiga tions have already been made by Forster and Altenburger,4) Meyers11) and, recently, Jasper,9) the changes correlated with the total course of convul sion which is experimentally, induced by cardiazol, are yet not reported. The purpose of this report is consisted from 1) an inquiring of the relation ship between the cortical pattern and the subcortical one and 2) a com parison of differences between electrographic hanges recorded via the scalp, viz. the routine EEG, and the changes of the cortical discharge. Some comments on the cerebral mechanism for convulsion are also added.

The Effect of Cardiazol Convulsions on the So-called "bulbocapnine Catatonia" in the Monkey.

LITTLE is yet understood as to the mode of action of the cardiazol convulsion in schizophrenic states and especially in the catatonic forms in which this method of treatment seems (v. Meduna, 1934) to be most effective. A possible method of approach to this problem lies in the study of the convulsion as it affects the animal, and of its effect on artificially induced states having features in c...

Lung abscess as a complication of shock therapies.

Shock therapy has been accepted today as one of the most successful methods for the treatment of the affective psychoses. The shock may be induced by insulin coma or by convulsions produced either electrically or by leptazol (" cardiazol "). Pulmonary suppuration has been a major complication of insulin coma therapy and, except for vertebral compression fractures, the most frequent sequel of co...

Brain Functional Connectivity Changes During Learning of Time Discrimination

The human brain is a complex system consist of connected nerve cells that adapts with and learn from the environment by changing its regional activities. Synchrony between these regional activities called functional network changes during the life, and with learning of new skills. Time perception and interval discrimination are among the most necessary skills for the human being to perceive mot...

Investigation of the effects of magnetic field exposure on febrile seizure latency, seizure duration, and electroencephalographic recordings in a rat febrile convulsion model.

AIM To investigate the effects of a magnetic field (MF) on febrile seizure latency, seizure duration, and electroencephalographic (EEG) recordings in a rat febrile convulsion model. MATERIALS AND METHODS Thirty-six rats were randomly allocated into 1 of 6 groups: sham group (S), febrile convulsion (FC) group without MF exposure, MF group without FC, group exposed to MF before FC (MF + FC), gr...

Ischemic injury suppresses hypoxia-induced electrographic seizures and the background EEG in a rat model of perinatal hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy.

The relationship among neonatal seizures, abnormalities of the electroencephalogram (EEG), brain injury, and long-term neurological outcome (e.g., epilepsy) remains controversial. The effects of hypoxia alone (Ha) and hypoxia-ischemia (HI) were studied in neonatal rats at postnatal day 7; both models generate EEG seizures during the 2-h hypoxia treatment, but only HI causes an infarct with seve...
